White Christmas by Tricia Foley

I usually don’t go all out with Christmas decorations at my house. I put up a tree, of course, but that’s about it. This year, however, I want to try to do a bit more. I’m not about to go overboard and litter my roof and yard with mechanical snowmen and reindeer, though. I want to keep things tasteful, which is why I’ll probably check out a book like White Christmas by Tricia Foley. The library ought to have a copy, so I won’t even have to buy it.

Anyway, I want a book that will give me tips on how best to use C9 led christmas lights and various other decorations to give my home a nice touch of holiday spirit without earning complaints from the homeowners association.

It’s been a tough year for my family in many ways, so I want to end 2010 on a good note with a very nice, festive Christmas. Hopefully my plans work out!

Home Theater Design by Krissy Rushing

I was browsing through Amazon.com just now and Home Theater Design by Krissy Rushing caught my attention. I started checking out some of the pictures inside and was just blown away by all the amazing media room setups highlighted in the book! I am practically drooling with envy over some of the entertainment centers, home theater seating, speaker systems, and wall-mounted flat screens that I saw. I have been dreaming for years now of putting a media center into my own home, but there never seems to be enough money to go through with any changes. Still, I keep checking books and magazines in the hopes that one day I’ll be able to get the amazing home theater that I want!

Kitchens: A Sunset Design Guide

I’m thinking about redoing the kitchen, so I’ve been checking around for a few books for inspiration. This Sunset Design Guide looks pretty promising. What I especially like about it is that it’s written by experts and it has charts that tell you which materials or features to choose based on your particular budget. Got some extra dough to spend? They’ll recommend high-quality Moen kitchen faucets. Need to save? Then a lesser brand is probably in order. Since money is definitely a major concern for this project, you better believe I’ll be paying close attention to these charts!

Anyway, I’ve ordered this book and hope it arrives soon. I can’t wait to get started on a new kitchen!

Bathroom Decorating Ideas

My bathroom is an utter embarrassment. It is so plain and boring that I get tired of looking at it every day. I really want to spruce it up a bit, so that’s why I’m thinking of ordering a bathroom decorating book.

I’m not all that big into DIY, so I’m not planning on renovating the whole room. Instead, I just want some ideas about how to make it look more lively and becoming. For instance, should I replace my ugly old taps with Kohler faucets? Should I cover the plain white walls with a more fetching color? Should I upgrade the dull ceramic tile to something more decorative and modern?

Wiring and Lighting

We have boxes and boxes of books in our basement because we don’t have enough shelf space for them upstairs. Most of the titles stored away are do-it-yourself books that my husband Jerry has bought from time to time since he likes to tinker with things around the house. Sometimes it’s fun to root around in the boxes and thumb through some of these forgotten books.

For example, one of the books I came across today was all about wiring and lighting a home. It had detailed instructions about how to handle electric wiring in the house, and even though Jerry had never done any electrical work before, he was able to complete a couple of small projects thanks t this book. It also gave some ideas about light fixtures and decorative lighting, but not to the extent that you’d find in a magazine or interior decorating book.

I don’t know if this title is still in print, but it’s a useful little book for do-it-yourselfers to have on hand!
