Dieting for Dummies

May 30, 2010

Since I live a mostly sedentary lifestyle, I guess it’s no wonder that I’m having a little trouble losing weight. It’s not as though I’m a candidate for Biggest Loser or anything, but I think I’d look and feel better if I could drop five pounds. This has actually been rather tough to do, and is something I’ve been working on for a couple of years without much success. Seriously, if I hadn’t been 120 pounds 10 years ago, I’d probably have given up by now, thinking that my body simply wasn’t meant to be that size!

Now I think maybe it’s time to get a few books on the subject instead of going it alone. My library has tons of titles from the “for Dummies” series available to download for a 2-week lending period, so I’m going to get Dieting for Dummies as soon as some of my current checkouts expire. This book covers the usual stuff about dieting (you need to take in fewer calories than you use), and delves into nutrition as well. I think there’s also a section about the use of supplements and possible diet pill side effects to look out for. In addition, the authors talk about the ineffectiveness of diet fads, and present many strategies for keeping the weight off once you do lose it.

This is probably not something I need to read cover to cover, but I’m sure I could benefit from some of the chapters. Hey, this might even be the first book I read on my *new* iPad (which I just ordered a few minutes ago)!!!!!
